Communal Cremation

What is communal cremation

Our Communal Water Based Cremation service offers a respectful and eco-friendly farewell for beloved pets whose families have chosen this option. Your pet will be cremated alongside other cherished companions, and their ashes will be scattered at sea, a serene and natural final resting place. At Monarch, we conduct monthly sea scatterings (weather permitting) and provide families with the exact latitude and longitude of their pet’s final resting place via email.

Although ashes are not returned with this option, families may choose to receive a memorial item, such as a paw or nose print, fur clipping, or other keepsakes, before cremation. If you would like a remembrance, simply let us know in advance, and we will carefully prepare it for you.

The Journey

Step 1

Compassionate Pickup and Tracking

Our team is committed to providing gentle and respectful care from the very beginning.

  • Home or Veterinary Clinic Transport – Whether from your home or veterinary clinic, our team will arrive with care and compassion, using a soft blanket, stretcher, or basket to transport your pet with dignity.
  • Flexible Pickup Options – We offer same-day and scheduled pickups to best meet your needs.
  • Secure Tracking System – Your pet is carefully entered into our tracking software and assigned a unique identification number to ensure they are respectfully handled throughout the process.
  • Gentle Holding Process – Until the cremation process begins, your pet is placed in our temperature-controlled walk-in refrigeration room, ensuring their care and preservation.

Communal Cremation

  • If memorial items such as paw prints, nose prints, or fur clippings were requested, they are prepared before cremation begins.
  • Your pet is then placed in the aquamation chamber alongside other pets who are also receiving communal cremation. In this process, pets are not separated, allowing them to gently transition together.
  • Over the course of 24 hours, the aquamation process naturally reduces the body to bone.
  • Once the process is complete, the bones are dried and gently broken down into soft, white ashes, which are then set aside for monthly scattering at sea.

Scattering and Memorialization

  • Approximately once a month, we scatter all communal ashes at sea, returning them to nature in a serene and eco-friendly way.
  • If we have your email address on file, you will receive a notification with the date of scattering along with the latitude and longitude of your pet’s final resting place.
  • If you requested a memorial item, we will deliver it back to you just as we do for private cremation ashes—either through your veterinarian, direct pickup at our facility, or via USPS mail (signature required for $40).

This process ensures that every pet is honored with compassion, dignity, and respect, even if their ashes are not returned. If you have any questions or would like to request a special keepsake, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
